Ship, Captain, and Crew - Dice Game Rules
A quick and exciting dice game where players race to assemble their ship, captain, and crew to achieve the highest score (also referred to as Cap'n, Bos'n, Mate; Ship of Fools; Clickety Clack; 6-5-4[1] or Destroyer)
Players: 2 or more players
Ages: 8+
Time: 10-20 minutes
Setup: 5 dice to each player
Turn order: Clockwise
Goal: The goal of the game is to assemble a "ship" (6), "captain" (5), and "crew" (4), and achieve the highest possible score with the remaining two dice.
Cycle (4 rounds):
1. Roll: Each player takes turns rolling all five dice up to three times per turn. They must roll a 6 (ship) before they can keep a 5 (captain), and a 5 before they can keep a 4 (crew).
2. Assemble: Once a player has a ship, captain, and crew, they can use the remaining rolls to achieve the highest score with the last two dice.
3. Score: The sum of the last two dice is the player's score for the round. If a player cannot get a ship, captain, and crew, they score zero for that round.
4. Pass: After a player completes their turn, the dice are passed to the next player.
Ending: The game can be played for a set number of rounds, typically agreed upon before starting, or until a player reaches a predetermined score. The player with the highest total score at the end of the game wins.
